INTRODUCTION
The Architects’ Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) is a Council of the presidents of the National Institutes of Architects of 21 Asian countries that are members of ARCASIA.
Due to unprecedented Covid19 Pandemic situation, this year ARCASIA has decided to organize an Online Design Competition among the individual students of ARCASIA member countries. This ARCASIA Students’ Architectural Design Competition 2020 is organized by the ARCASIA Committee on Architectural Education (ACAE) Secretariat.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the ARCASIA Students’ Architectural Design Competition is to provide an arena for students from ARCASIA Member Institutes to participate in ARCASIA activities. It is an opportunity for students from different cultures to exchange and share idea on particular design issue that is raised by ARCASIA every year.
COMPETITION THEME “RESILIENCE BY DESIGN”. The current pandemic has highlighted social inequities. Some are social, cultural; some are spatial, territorial; some are environmental and so on. COVID-19 has taught us about how cities/neighborhood/spaces need to plan, build and design differently in the future. What social resiliency means in the context of a Pandemic and Public Health Crisis. The student is to identify a Public Space in neighborhood/City/Local Area like Park, Central Courts/ Street Corners/ Waterfronts/ Piazza/ Streets, or any such Public Place – Open or Covered, and to design, redesign, reinvent, recreate that place attempting to find Resilience keeping in mind this New Normal Situation post COVID-19 Pandemic.
One should venture beyond the ordinary boundaries of Architecture – not only be aware of one’s surroundings and events but also attempt to seek answers. The project should show us how “an Architect” can bring about a “Resolution” in a “Resilience”, and demonstrate the architect’s role as a thinker, a reformer, an activist, and a visionary.
ENTRY ELIGIBILITY
Any current full-time student studying in an Undergraduate Architecture program accredited/recognized by respective National Institutes of Architects of ARCASIA Member Institutes.
INDIVIDUAL / TEAM SUBMISSION
Individual or team submissions are accepted. No limitation on number of team members. However, Students are only allowed for one submission either on an individual or team basis.
DELIVERABLES
One file containing one A1-sized layout (841mm x 594mm) in landscape format, including (but not limited to) the following:
Location Plan/ Site Plan/ Block Plan/ Building Plans at appropriate scale;
Minimum one cross-section and/or elevations at appropriate scale;
Diagram/ Sketches highlighting the design ideas and features;
Photomontages, Perspectives, and or other illustrations that can illustrate the ideas and design concepts; carrying the title “Resilience by Design”;
Animations is not accepted.
Design Statement of 500 words maximum (font size: 12) in PDF format to explain the overall proposal with proposal title.
Duly completed and signed Entry Form in PDF format.
ANONYMITY AND CONFIDENTIALITY OF ENTRIES
No identification marks shall appear on the graphic layouts and the Design Statement. The participant(s) shall keep his/ her/their entry confidential and take necessary steps to ensure it is not disclosed to any third parties throughout the competition until the public announcement of results.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
Intellectual Property Rights belong to the author(s), but upon submitting an entry to the category, the participant declares, warrants, agrees and undertakes that the submission (Intellectual Property Rights inclusive) would be used for promotion/ publication of the event.

25th June 2020, Thursday Competition announced to ARCASIA Member Institutes /Universities/Institutions/Colleges/ARCASIA Members.
31st August 2020, Monday Closing date of submission of One (1) A1-sized layout (594mm x 841mm) in landscape format to respective National Institutes of Architects of ARCASIA Member Institutes.

ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES
The selected entries sent from all the NIAs of ARCASIA will be judged in accordance with the broad assessment guidelines by the Jurors. The decision of the Jury Panel shall be final and binding on all parties concerned and decisions cannot be appealed against. Participants do not have the right to request for access to the Jurors’ comments or records on the adjudication.

All shortlisted entries will be showcased at Asian Congress of Architects (ACA) in 2021. The winners will be
offered local hospitality for 2 nights by the ACA – 2021 Hosts, whereas the airfare will be the responsibility of
their respective Member Institutes/Individuals.
EXHIBITION AND PUBLICATION OF ENTRIES
The organizer is entitled to display or exhibit on any date and in any venue the entries or any part thereof, and
publish including the report of the category events together with any selected entries.
LANGUAGE
All entries shall be in English.
