Empathic Architecture & Sustainable Environmental Architecture

The international conference of SENVAR (Sustainable Environment Architecture) is an annual gathering for scientists, scholars, and architects in the forum of International Conference that focuses on the issue of sustainable architecture, which in 2017 will be the 17th conferences. Meanwhile, ICEA (International Conference on Empathic Architecture) was firstly initiated by Petra Christian University-Surabaya in 2014, which in 2017 will be the 2nd. These two conferences have different position to understand the issue of sustainable environment, one from the observation of architectural sciences, and the latter from the view of social impact, which is from the users. However, these two conferences have the same root and wisdom to concern sustainability, and have the same respect to ethically responsible to the earth.

In the year 2017, these two conferences will be joined together to define broader and integrated understanding of sustainability, would be named ICEASENVAR 17. The conference organized by the Petra Christian University will cover in three main fields:

  • Green architecture and intelligent building sciences and built environment
  • Eco-friendly building structure and construction
  • Livable and Healthy Architecture, Urban Environment and Cities

The Objective goal of the conference is to rescue thoroughly, to maintain ecologically, to balance equitably and to create brilliantly a long-lived and healthy build environment among buildings and cities.

CALL FOR PAPER

It is now apparent that we are living in a planet with multi-dimensional crisis; lack of energy resources built environment with minimum consideration for the future generation. These are exaggerated with air, water, land and sound pollution as a result of careless human activities. Rapid urbanization has resulted in deterioration of the environment and loss of quality of life. Constructing built environment in the sustainable ways are propagated in almost everywhere in the world, but this mostly considering the physical aspect of the development. Ideally, the sustainable way also takes the humanist aspect into account.

A method to put the humanist aspect into built environment design is empathic architecture. It is when an architect decides the best solution for a design problem by making the designer and the user practically the same person. In some cases, users may have difficulty in envisioning their desire toward modernity whilst also compromising with the issue of sustainability. Here, architects, designers and those who play the role on the development of built environment to map users’ need, the way of life and desire is significant.

These two general topics of empathic architecture and sustainable environmental architecture merge to one main topic of “Wisdom and Practices of the Sustainable Built Environment for Better Livings”. Studies on this topic are expected to offer buildings and built environment that physically and psychologically friendly to both human and nature. Original research papers come from the following sub-topics (but not limited to) are welcome.
